April 2008 MGHD Goaltender Omar Kanji Commits To Cornell, NCAA Division 1
Congratulations to 1991 born goaltender Omar Kanji who has committed to Cornell for the next 4 years. Omar has been training with MGHD since 2002. He spent this past season playing for Upper Canada College posting a 1.65 GAA and a 93.5% save percentage. According to Jamie McGuire "Omar is a perfect example of never giving up. He overcame many challanges during his minor hockey career and always continued to battle. His work ethic on the ice and in school is second to none and this opened up a lot of doors for him."

December 2008 MGHD Goaltender Vicky Vigilanti Recieves Full Scholarship To Quinnipiac University, NCAA D1
Congratulations to 1991 born goaltender, Victoria Vigilanti who recently received a full scholarship to Quinnipiac University. Quinnipiac is a Division 1, NCAA school who plays in the ECAC against schools such as Harvard, Yale, Princeton + Brown. Vicky has been training with McGuire Goaltending since 2001 when she was a member of the GTHL's AAA Markham Islanders. After Markham, Vicky played her Bantam year also with boys as a member of the Don Mills Flyers before finally making the move to girl's hockey in 2005 - 2006. Vicky is now in her 3rd year playing Girls Jr. Hockey and is currently with the Mississauga Chiefs in the PWHL. She was also a member of the 2008 National Champions, Team Ontario U18. According to Vicky the hard work she has put in over the past 8 years is just the beginning "My first goal was to earn a scholarship to a NCAA school. Now that I have achieved that goal, I am setting new ones. I believe that I now have to work even harder in order to be a number one goalie at the NCAA level. I am looking forward to the challenge." October 2008 Congratulations To MGHD Students Omar Kanji + Vicky Vigilanti
1991 born goaltender Vicky Vigilanti was selected to the Ontario Under 18 Provincial Team. Vicky is a member of the Mississauga Jr. Chiefs and has been training at McGuire Goaltending since 2001. Another 1991 born Goaltender, Omar Kanji who started training at McGuire Goaltending at the same time as Vicky in 2001 is a member of the Upper Canada College Varsity Hockey Team. Omar was called up to the UCC Tier 2 Jr. A team (OPJHL) last week and started against the 15th nationaly ranked Orangeville Crushers. Despite being outshot 58 - 13, UCC won the game and Omar was selected the games first star.

September 14, 2008 Markham Waxers Minor Hockey Selects MGHD As Their Official Goaltender Development School
McGuire Hockey would like to thank the Markham Waxers Hockey Association for selecting us to be their official goaltender training school for the 2008 - 2009 season. Each Saturday morning for 28 weeks MGHD is running a goalie's only clinic for all registered Markham Waxer goaltenders. The clinic is open to goalies from AE - AAA and runs for 1.5 hours every week. |

Goaltender Michael Hutchinson is currently the 5th Ranked North American Goaltender by Central Scouting for this years upcoming NHL Draft in Ottawa on June 20th + 21st, 2008. "Hutch" has been training with MGHD since he was 15 years old and has made tremendous progress over the past 3 years. Hutchinson is currently the starting goaltender for the OHL's Barrie Colts. |
May 20, 2008 MGHD Student Stephanie Jones Receives Scholarship To Syracuse University
MGHD Student Stephanie Jones is heading to Syracuse University for the next 4 years. Jones has been training once a week at McGuire Goaltending for the past 2 years and has also worked as a Jr. Instructor at some of our camps and clinics. This past season Stephanie played Jr. for Markham in the PWHL. Jones has worked very hard both on and off the ice. According to her goaltending coach, Jamie McGuire, "Steph is the complete student-athlete. She is always working on improving her skills on the ice and works just as hard in school" Jones will finish her Sr. Year of highschool with a 89% average. Syracuse is a first year Division 1 NCAA program. They will be competing in the CHA and will be coached by USA National Team Coach Paul Flanagan. When asked Stephanie said " I am very excited about the opportunity to compete at the NCAA level and am proud to become part of the Syracuse program." |

October 9, 2007 Former MGHD Student Brian Elliot Gets First NHL Win
Making his first start with the Ottawa Senators, Brian Elliot made 27 saves as the Sens beat the Atlanta Thrashers 3 - 1. Elliot, from Newmarket, Ontario, played the last 4 years in Wisconsin. October 9, 2007 Goaltender Rick "Kiwi" Parry has successful first year of professional hockey in New Zealand Rick Parry played this past season with the Auckland Admirals in the NZIHL. "Kiwi", who spent the 06-07 season living in Canada and training with McGuire Goaltending, averaged over 40 shots against per game and was the Admirals most outstanding player this year. McGuire Goaltending is proud to announce that they have once again been selcted as the Official Goaltending School for the Bradford Minor Hockey Association. Throughout the 2008 - 2009 Season, McGuire Goaltending will be running goalie's only clinics on selected Sunday mornings. The clinics will be free of charge for all goalies registered with Bradford Minor Hockey and will be designed to help develop all Bradford goaltenders from Mite - Midget. |
September 9, 2008 McGuire Goaltending is the Official Goaltender Training School for the Richmond Hill Hockey Association
For the third straight year, McGuire Goaltending has been named the Official Goaltender Training School for the entire Richmond Hill Hockey Association. Goaltenders from Mite to Midget and from House League to AAA will have the opportuninty to attend professional goaltending clinics every Sunday from 12:00pm - 1:30pm at Elgin Barrow Arena during the 2008 - 2009 season. All registered Richmond Hill Stars Goaltenders will also have the opportunity to attend any McGuire Goaltending Camps, Clinics or Semi-Private lessons for reduced prices. According to Jamie McGuire, who played all of his minor hockey in Richmond Hill - "This is another example of how dedicated Richmond Hill Hockey is to developing their goaltenders regardless of age or level. January 15, 2007 Victoria Vigilanti Named PWHL Player Of The Week - January 8 - 14, 2007
For the second time this season, Goaltender, Victoria Vigilanti has been named Player of The Week in the Provincial Women's Hockey League. Vicky is a rookie with the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins and is enjoying her first season playing with girls after 6 years of playing in the GTHL's AAA boys loop. "I am really glad I made the decision to switch to girls Jr. hockey this year. It was the right time in my life to make the move and it has proven to be the right choice", said Vigilanti. Vicky, born in 1991 has played 20 games so far this year and has an amazing 1.70 goals against average in a league where she is one of the youngest players. (Ages 15 - 20). |

MGHD Student Profile Brian Elliot Brian Elliott Leads Wisconsin Badgers to the 05-06 NCAA Division 1 National Championship
MGHD Student, Wisconsin Badger Goaltender + Ottawa Senators Draft Pick, Brian Elliott had a dream season, winning a NCAA National Championship, being featured in Sports Illustrated and was in the hunt for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award. Brian finished 2nd in the voting for the Hobey Baker Award, presented each year to the countries most valuable NCAA hockey player. He had been the No. 1 choice on CSTV.com's Hobey Baker Watch in all seven polls and was 15-1-1 against ranked opponents. Brian finished the season with a 27-5-3 record, 1.55 GAA, .938 Save% and 8 Shutouts. He led the Nation in each catagory and was also selected as a 1st Team All American. Elliott is from Newmarket, Ontario and played his Jr. Hockey with Ajax (OPJHL)

August 31, 2006 McGuire Hockey + Rumble Hockey combined efforts to hold team training camps for the Minor Midget North York Knights AA + Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins
During the week of August 28 - Sept. 1/06 McGuire Hockey + Rumble Hockey held team training camps for both the 1991 AA North York Knights + Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins in an effort to prepare both teams for the upcoming 06-07 season. The training camps included dry-land training, on ice training and daily guest speakers. On Thursday August 31st the 2 teams joined the ice together to play an exibition game, with the victory going to the Knights 5 - 2. Playing with the Dolphins during the game was Canadian Women's National Team hopeful, Teresa Marchase who curently plays in the National Women's Hockey League for the Etobicoke Sr. Dolphins.

Canada's Standing Amputee Hockey Team stayed undefeated in International compitition earlier today when they defeated USA in the Gold Medal Game at the ISIHF World Championship in Riga, Latvia by a score of 5 - 2. "Never in my life have I been involved with a team like this, each and every player battled hard right until the final buzzer to ensure that we won today" said Team Canada Head Coach, Jamie McGuire. "I am so proud to be involved with this team and it's players. April 21, 2006 New Zealand Native Rick Parry Chasing His Dream In Canada
1987 born goaltender, Rick Parry flew across the world in late March chasing his dream to play Jr. hockey in Canada. Parry is from New Zealand and had never before been to Canada, but knows that in order to get noticed he must make an impact in Canadian Jr. Hockey. Rick is currently playing with the Jr. A Richmond Hill Rams. While in Canada, Rick is living with a family in Markham and is training daily with McGuire Goaltending School in our Elite Goaltender Development Program. |
March 2006 MGHD Goaltender Paul Rosen Leads Canada to Paralympic Gold in Torino
Team Canada Sledge Hockey Goaltender + McGuire Goaltending Student, Paul Rosen is on top of the world. "Rosey", shut out Norway in the Gold Medal Game 3 - 0 to help close out the victory and secure Canada's first Gold Medal in Hockey at the Paralympics. According to his goalie coach, Jamie McGuire "Paul never stops working at his game...he prepared for the olympics every day over the last 4 years, never turning his attention from his ultimate goal - Olympic Gold." Rosen (who is missing his right leg) trains on a regular basis with able-bodied goaltenders and more importantly, able-bodied shooters in order to push himself as hard as possible. When asked about his training Paul said "Able-bodied shooters move the puck faster and shoot harder than most players in sledge hockey, so it was a great test for me to train with them.

In co-operation with Steve Tschipper owner + operator of Hockey Camps International who will be running all the player development sessions, MGHD will be running weekly goalie clinics for 30 weeks during the 2005 - 2006 season. Each goaltender who is registered at all levels (HL, AE, A, AA, AAA) will have a minimum of 5 scheduled sessions to attend and train with our elite staff during the year. |
December, 2005 MGHD Instructor + Shooter Kyle Quincey Plays His First NHL Game MGHD Shooter Kyle Quincey was called up by the Detroit Red Wings on November 23/05. He was a healthy scratch in his first game with the team and was then inserted into the line-up and played on November 25/05 against Anahiem. Kyle was held scoreless but did record a shot on net during the game. When asked, Kyle said "It was a dream come true...it seems like I have been working for this day my entire life. I will never forget the experience" Kyle worked as a shooter this summer at both of our Elite Goaltender Training Camps in Toronto, Ontario. |

Glen Sather announced on Wednesday that goaltender Chris Holt has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL). He will be in the lineup as the New York Rangers play host to the Florida Panthers. Holt is a first year pro after playing 3 years for the University of Nebraska-Omaha (CCHA) Chris Holt has been a part of the GCG (Goaltender Consultant Group) Prospects Camp in New Hampshire for the past 3 years. GCG is a group that consults and trains elite goaltenders from all over the world. The founders are Brian Daccord, Jamie McGuire + Tom Dempsey. According to Jamie McGuire "Chris trains hard every summer...he asks a lot of questions and is always trying new techniques to make sure that his game improves. Being called up to New York, even if only for a few games shows that the Rangers believe in his ability and is a big step for him emotionally." |
